(Term Ends January 1, 2015)
Luis “Louie” A. Aguiñaga has been a resident of the City of South El Monte since 1967. He has devoted his life to raising his family and helping his community thrive. His grandfather immigrated in the 1930’s from Campo, Guanajuato and through hard work was able to sponsor his family to join him, including Louie’s father.
Louie attended Epiphany Catholic School, where he is proud to have been a catholic school boy and is an active Alumnus. Louie then attended El Monte High School where he met, and later married, the mother of his two daughters Nina and Angela. After completing his course studies at El Monte high school, Louie attended Rio Hondo College. He has continued his education in city leadership and city management throughout his political career through organizations such as the California Contract Cities Association and the League of California Cities.
Louie was elected to the City Council in March of 2003. The citizens of South El Monte believed in his promise of progress and an era of leadership and fiscal responsibility. His mission has proven successful with developments such as the South El Monte Senior Housing, the Plaza del Sol Project, the ARCO development and several housing projects. His keen ability to pursue both state and federal funding, has provided the City with an opportunity to repave our streets, beautify our open spaces and pursue retailers to our City.
His heart and soul still lies with City recreation facilities for families to enjoy, he is a firm believer of a “family that plays together stays together.” His current passion projects included the redevelopment of Mary Van Dyke Park and future projects for the Community and Senior Center. These projects have given South El Monte the edge it had been missing for so long. His vision of making the City of South El Monte the jewel of the San Gabriel Valley is becoming a reality. With the help of the City Council, staff and the community, as Mayor he wants to maximize the development of a prosperous South El Monte.
His professional development includes working and managing for Ford Remanufacturing Co, SERVO Inc. and eventually branching out as a self employed owner of SERVO Products. He has years of business management experience, however his passion lies in the real estate market owning several income properties. He is proud of becoming a young rental property owner at only 21 years of age. Since his initial purchase, he has acquired several rental properties. He would like to leave his real estate properties to his daughters, thus ensuring their financial independence while securing his own entrepreneurial legacy. His property management experience has given Louie the knowledge to advise his colleagues on fiscal responsibility and has prompted him to understand the dynamics of acquiring land for the city and residents. With his background, Louie was an essential advocate for the purchase of a business which will be utilized to provide community services.
Being part of the City Council is a responsibility that has not prevented Louie from being active in non-profit organizations within the City. These organizations include the Epiphany Fathers Booster Club, South El Monte Little League, and South El Monte High School
Volunteer Coach, South El Monte Sister Cities Association member and being an active supporter of programs and services for residents of the City. He is proud to be part of the community and is a leader that listens and is dedicated to causes he believes in. As Mayor, Louie is humbled and proud of the opportunity to serve as your voice and the wonderful City of South El Monte.
